Trash Compactor Bags

What is so important about trash compactor bags? You might be thinking a bag is a bag so why not use regular trash bags. Well it sounds simple enough but just like regular trash bags are for certain size trash cans, trash compactor bags are made for certain size trash compactors.

More importantly they are much stronger so they can take a squishing and not pop all the contents into your compactor. It is possible to have 50 pounds of compacted trash and an ordinary bag won’t handle the pressure, the good news is you don’t use as many trash bags.

Common bag sizes are 12 inch, 15 inch, and 18 inch size bags most trash compactor brands like GE, Whirlpool, Broan all have their recommended compactor bags.

Generic trash compactor bags may not have the necessary holes in the right spot for your particular compactor but that doesn’t mean you can’t necessarily use them, you may be able to adapt them.

When you first buy your trash compactor purchase the recommended brand bags if they are not included, once you use your compactor a few times and then buy a small amount of generic bags and see if you can save a wee bit of money.

If you have to do a lot of adapting don’t bother your time is worth the little bit of money you spend for the brand name compactor bags.

Compactor trash bags are biodegradable and often made with recycled materials while regular trash bags do not degrade or break down ever, so using a trash compactor can help the environment by reducing waste.

Some folks use the waste compactor just for recyclables like cans or plastic bottles just remember to rinse them out before you place in the in the compactor to reduce any odors and make sure all the plastics are suitable to mix together.

There are some items you should not place in your trash compactor as they can rip the bag and you will have a big mess on your hands. Even though many units can crush glass if it splinters it could poke holes and even cut the person carrying the garbage out to the curb. It is suggested that you don’t place glass or food into the waste compactor.
